The NCCP includes a total of 60 required contact hours including content areas that are designated as National Content (50%), Local Content (25%), and Individual Content (25%). Overall, paramedics now need 60 hours of continuing education, a decrease of 12 hours every 2 years to maintain national certification. The 30 hours designated as National Content covers a prescriptive curriculum, including a requirement for some skills performance and scenario participation. Up to 10 hours of the National Content may also be delivered through distance education.

Creighton University EMS Education will deliver the 30 hours of National Content requirements (one half of the required 60 hours for paramedics). The program will be presented in a hybrid format, with 10 hours being delivered through a distance education platform (online), and 20 hours of onsite didactic content including skills performance and scenario participation. A certificate of completion will only be awarded when all face-to-face and distance education content has been completed.

Participation in the 30 hours NCCP will satisfy the National Content minimum requirements for Advanced EMTs and EMTs. AEMTs are required to have national content totaling 25 hours (overall 50 hours), and EMTs are required to have national content totaling 20 (overall 40 hours).

If you would like additional information about the NCCP or to check if your state has adopted this new standard, please visit the NREMT website.
