Paramedic Certification for Healthcare Providers
This on campus two-week course will apply previous clinical knowledge to field situations and supplement it with additional knowledge and skills related to pre-hospital situations. This intensive course will cover such topics as patient assessment, rapid extrication, intubation, pre-hospital medications, equipment and patient management. Successful completion of this course will result in a Paramedic Certificate of Completion for the Paramedic Program and eligibility requirements for the National Registry Paramedic Examination process.
Participants are expected to commit time both before and after the two weeks on campus for successful completion of the class. There are approximately 12 hours of pre-course content required to be completed prior to arrival. Online access through Creighton's Learning Management System will be available 4-6 weeks before the scheduled start. Following the two weeks on campus, participants will need to complete required patient contacts.
Didactic training is scheduled during the day. Field Internship with local fire departments and ambulance services will be scheduled evenings/weekend during the two-week course. Arrangements can be made with Creighton University EMS Education and your local EMS agencies to complete the required number of contacts. Access to field internship and clinical affiliate sites for emergency medical services education programs has become increasingly complex. Accreditation agencies have implemented new policies and state regulatory officials increasingly seek to be more involved in all EMS student activities taking place within their respective jurisdictions. Creighton University EMS Education is committed to assist students in gaining access to educational field internship and clinical affiliate sites that are as convenient as possible. Creighton University EMS Education is not able to guarantee that we will be able to establish an affiliation agreement with any particular agency, or that a current affiliation agreement will continue.
Eligible applicants shall hold current and in good-standing licensure as an RN, MD, or DO with a minimum of two years critical care experience. Current EMT certification, ACLS, and BLS for Healthcare Providers (or equivalent) is also required. Trauma and Pediatric specialty course certifications are strongly recommended.
Creighton’s EMS education program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions.
Questions regarding reciprocity should be directed to the individual's state EMS credentialing agency for requirements.
